On the second day of camp, we will see how God’s word comes near as God chooses
and blesses each one of us. Our story is from 1 Samuel, chapter 16, verses 1-13.
Sometimes, we are called to do hard things like Samuel in this story. Samuel was called
to find the next king for God but risked upsetting powerful people, but God was near to
Samuel and blessed. Even during the hard times, God’s word comes near. In this story,
we also see how God’s word came near to David, the youngest son of Jesse, who God
chooses to be the next king. Like David and Samuel, we are each chosen and blessed
by God. We are often faced with tough decisions in our daily lives, but God will always
be with us to share His grace and forgiveness when needed. It can be hard to see
God’s blessings sometimes as we often associate His blessings with our actions and
whether we deserve them. In looking at David’s story, we are shown that God’s blessing
is not based on our actions and decisions but instead are gifts that God gives us
because of who He is. God chooses each of us for a reason and blesses us with
unique skills and traits. When life gets hard and we struggle to see God’s blessings and
hear God’s word near to us, we can practice gratitude to help us see God’s blessings.
